Equusology PlayShop
Not Your Average Horse Clinic
You already know your horse.
You’ve brushed them, ridden them, trained them, and loved them.
But do you really know what motivates them?
What if there was a way to understand not just what your horse does… but why they do it?
Welcome to the Equusology PlayShop – a hands-on, heart-opening experience designed to help you connect with your horse in a whole new way.
This is not your typical clinic. There are no judges, no ribbons, no pressure.
Just you, your horse, and a deeper look into the unique personality dynamics between you.
What’s Equusology?
Think of it as a typology for horses and humans.
You may have taken personality tests, such as the Enneagram or Myers-Briggs, to gain a deeper understanding of yourself.
Now imagine a similar approach that helps you understand the temperament, learning style, and emotional processing of your horse… and how yours fits (or sometimes clashes) with theirs.
We’ll explore this through creative, simple exercises designed to be both fun and deeply insightful.
What You’ll Learn
How to deepen your connection with your horse by understanding what makes them feel safe, seen, and understood.- How your horse learns – so you can communicate more clearly and reduce frustration on both sides.
- How your horse makes decisions – whether they move from curiosity, caution, or confidence.
- How your horse relaxes and processes new experiences – so you can help them settle, soften, and trust more.
No special tack required. No riding necessary.
And there’s no age limit on the horse – as long as they’re halter trained and safe to handle on the ground, they’re welcome.
Why This Matters
If you’ve ever found yourself wondering:
- “Why does my horse act this way around new things?”
- “Why do we sometimes feel out of sync?”
- “How can I be a better partner to them?”
…then this PlayShop is for you.
When we understand how our horse perceives the world — and how we perceive it — we unlock a new level of communication and harmony.
It becomes easier to train, easier to ride, and more fulfilling just to be together.
This work can help you stop guessing and start connecting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Equusology, exactly?
A: Equusology is the study of the natural typologies—personality types—of both horses and humans. Using a fun, grounded approach, we explore how your horse processes information, makes decisions, and learns best… while also uncovering your innate style and how the two interact. It’s not training. It’s understanding.
Q: Is this a riding clinic?
A: No. This is a non-riding, experiential workshop focused on groundwork, observation, and personal insight. You and your horse will participate in easy, safe exercises on the ground—no special equipment or riding experience required.
Q: Do I need to bring a horse?
A: Yes, this is a horse-and-human partnership experience, and you’ll need to bring a halter-trained horse that is comfortable being led and handled safely. If you don’t have a horse but would still like to attend, please reach out—we occasionally offer limited “observer” spots or may have an option to pair with a horse on-site.
Q: What kind of horse is best for this PlayShop?
A: Any horse that is halter-trained and safe to handle on the ground is welcome. Age, breed, and training level don’t matter. This isn’t about what your horse can do—it’s about how they are.
Q: What if my horse doesn’t behave perfectly?
A: That’s totally okay! This isn’t a judged clinic—there’s no pressure to perform. Horses show us exactly what we need to see in the moment, and their behavior is part of the learning process. Safety is the only requirement.
Q: What will I learn?
A: You’ll gain insight into:
- Your horse’s natural personality and learning style
- How your own typology influences the partnership
- How your horse relaxes, processes, and connects
- How to create more harmony in your day-to-day interactions
Q: Who is leading this PlayShop?
A: Your facilitator is Susan Bloom, Master Equine Gestaltist trained by Melisa Pearce (Touched by a Horse) and Carolyn Fitzpatrick (The Horse Connection, LLC), the co-creators of the Equusology approach. Susan brings years of experience with horses, personal growth, and coaching, all through the lens of compassion and effective communication.
Q: What should I bring?
A: You’ll receive a detailed email with preparation information once you are registered.
- Your halter-trained horse
- Halter and lead rope
- A chair, a water bottle, and a notebook
- An open mind and a willingness to explore
Q: How many participants are there?
A: Group size is intentionally kept small—usually 6 participants max—to ensure a personalized, supportive environment where every pair receives time and attention.
Q: What’s the cost?
A: The cost varies by location. Please see the registration page for current rates and the cancellation policy.
Q: Can I host a PlayShop at my barn or facility?
A: Yes! If you have a safe arena or round pen, access to a small group of interested horse people, and a heart for connection, reach out! Hosting is a beautiful way to bring this work to your local horse community.
