Vision, Change, and the Power of Adaptation
My life is basically uncharted. I have a broad vision. I’m not great at formally setting the goals to get me there.
Before I started the Equine Gestalt program I didn’t have a written vision. Writing your vision is powerful. You also must remember that sometimes we get blown off course and need to make corrections.
Adapting to Life’s Curveballs: Overcoming Major Course Corrections
When I wrote my vision, I was married to a western Kansas farmer, and it was written to stay with him there. Then I had a major course correction when he died. It took me a while to rewrite it. I started looking at properties in eastern Kansas. I did Gestalt work around it. Then I was ready to create something with my new business and there was a Pandemic. It seemed silly to take the steps to move then.
Major life changes can be a daunting process. When they come at you quickly it makes it even harder. There can be many decisions to make. We can become paralyzed.
I had been Mike’s caregiver for five and a half years when he dramatically died. We had been going about our days working toward managing his complicated disease. Mostly decisions were being made for us. What doctor he would see? What test they would run? What the treatment plan was. Then suddenly none of this was happening.
I was left feeling lost and alone. Yes, I had support from family and friends. I didn’t have my life partner anymore. I don’t have the help he always gave me around my horses and repairs and maintenance at the house and barn. I even missed our trips across the state to see doctors and the medical professionals themselves.
One morning before I moved from Oakley, I had a memory of Mike and how we both drank our coffee. There are times when I get sad and I’m sure those times will happen. It’s important to feel all the feelings and move with the grief.
Finding Stability Amid Change
I was also lucky that I had my Gestalt herd to call when I needed. Still, it took me five years to make this major life transition. I was impatient. I was ready to start my Equine Gestalt practice. It wasn’t happening fast enough. I read a book that says five years is the average. If you’re in a major life transition remember that and don’t rush.
It can get rough when the moon transitions as well. With changes in the tides and nature. You may need to close the curtains to sleep if the moon is shining too brightly. Find the things that will help you with your transitions.
I’ll be hosting a Look Back, Look Forward workshop to help with your transitions. Details coming soon.
