Is there something youāre passionate about? Something for which you would risk it all. That when youāre doing it everything seems right with the world. You are at peace.
I have a few passions in my life. My children, singing, photography and design, and horses. Some of my first memories are riding with my aunt on Bud. Then I had a black and white pony, Champ. Most of my early childhood memories are around Champ. He was the first horse that I showed and rode independently.
When I was in high school, I thought I would become an architect. I love admiring architecture. But I wasnāt passionate enough about it. When it felt like they wanted me to be in the studio for 27 hours a day it was too much for me.
I switched my major to vocal performance. Again, it felt like they wanted me to be in the practice room 27 hours a day. Then I switched to animal science. I might have completed that major except I was in a bad relationship, and I knew he wouldnāt follow me back to Oakley, so I went home.
Then I discovered PageMaker a page design program. Mom and I started a small design business and I wanted to learn more, so I went back to school to major in communications. I completed this degree, but we closed the office because I was driving 90 miles one way to school, and we lost our help. It was too hard to keep it open.
About two years after I finished the degree the Northwest Kansas Technical College started a Computer Graphics Technology program. I saw a commercial for it and wanted to learn more and thought I could teach some of the classes. I inquired about the program, talked with the president of the college, submitted a resume, and was interviewed. I got the position.
It wasnāt a very peaceful job. I felt like the red-headed stepchild at the college. I wasnāt supported in a manner that helped me. With all that I learned a lot. I taught programs that Iād used very little or not at all. I became certified as a Cisco web development teacher. Most times I wrote my lessons the night before I taught them. And I hated the political aspect of being in teaching. I also rekindled a passion for photography this time with a digital camera and all the editing options that came with it.
I went from there to a couple of jobs where I could use my design and communication skills. They were stressful at times and fun at times, but I was not passionate enough about them. Then I was caregiving for Mike and any job was too much especially if I wasnāt 100% happy with it.
This is about the time I discovered the Equine Gestalt CoachingĀ® program. Everything about it felt right. I could help people while working with horses. It was so luxurious to be in the presence of others who felt the same. My EGC training didnāt go as smoothly as I would have liked with caregiving for Mike, being diagnosed with breast cancer, then losing Mike. It did put me in the best place I could have been emotionally for all those occurrences.
I would love to introduce you to the horses and Gestalt to see what positive impact it can make on your life. Connect with me here to learn more.
This post was inspired by the movie Elvis. He followed his heart even when he was given specific instructions not to. If I Can Dream was a song written in protest that helped to restart Elvis’s singing career after making movies.
