Navigating Lifeā€™s Messiness and Supporting Your Team Through Challenges

Life can get messy ā€“ sometimes daily! This morning, I heard a big announcement that had come via email on August 1 that I had completely missed.

I sometimes get overwhelmed by email and especially snail mail and only open what I think is important. This came via a monthly newsletter that I hadnā€™t read yet. I get several emails from this company on the first day of the month and I tend to treat them as not highly important.

Sometimes Life Gets in the Way

My life got extremely messy for the five and a half years I was caregiving for Mike. When I was at work Iā€™d be in meetings and be asked if Iā€™d completed something. Often my response was no, then was I here for the meeting where that was discussed.

It got to the point where I had used all my time off, had used over two weeks of sick leave that had been given to me by co-workers, and had taken some time off without pay. This was when they decided to combine my full-time job with another full-time job, and I resigned. I already didnā€™t feel competent with the job I was doing. I couldnā€™t handle another full-time job on top of that and caregiving.

Now as a solopreneur, I have no one to fall back on. When I get overwhelmed and miss deadlines or announcements I need to move on and do the best I can. That means I must prioritize what I do. It may mean delegating or giving myself grace because they havenā€™t gotten my mower fixed or Iā€™ve had to reschedule that appointment twice. I know where my weaknesses lie and need to be watchful.

Last week at a business function I attended one of the men said although he wasnā€™t late that morning, he has a habit of being late. It doesnā€™t help that he has a newborn at home.

Understanding Team Dynamics

Working with teams we need to understand that sometimes life can get in the way. Do you have a teammate who you feel isnā€™t achieving their goals by the deadline? Do you understand the reasons this might be happening?

It may be part of their temperament. It may be something in their life that is getting in the way. Have you taken the time to ask? Do you have the grace to see how you can help?

It might be an easy solution. Maybe you need to rearrange the team to help people work to their strengths.

Do you have a team that youā€™d like to do unforgettable work? The horses can guide them to better teamwork. We can work on clearer communications, so they know when to help a teammate or give encouragement. Click the button below and letā€™s talk about PlayShops.
