Your Next Chapter Begins Here

Owl on a fence postI love it when wildlife comes to visit. I see hawks almost daily, an owl occasionally, and coyotes and deer regularly.

Sometimes, I hear what I think might be an eagle, although I’ve never seen what I was sure was one.

Yesterday evening I went out to get feed ready for the horses this morning, and thought how much I love it here.

I’ve had people tell me how peaceful the ranch looks when I post pictures on social media. It is as peaceful as it looks.

It is a place where transformation takes place.

I am influenced by the peace. I am different.

Life Changed in an Instant

Woman graduate and family

Sometimes life throws us curveballs. Something we swing at and miss.

My curveball was losing my husband when he was only 58 years old.

I had expected we’d grow old together. Way past 32 years of being married.

After John left for college the next year, I had a completely empty nest.

No one to do things with, like take vacations, share dinner, or go to the movies.

It wasn’t just me – the boys had lost their father. Their lives had changed as well.

sunsetIt took me five years to fully make the transition from western to eastern Kansas. Mostly, it was fear that held me back. I was in a vortex, wondering if it was the right decision for me.

There were other factors that contributed to the length. My first grandchild was born a few months after Mike’s death. My dad died almost two years after Mike. My second grandchild was born a few weeks after that. About a year after Dad’s death, Mom decided to sell the house. I saw all of these as reasons I hadn’t gotten the courage to move.

I had worked with the horses more than once, and everything was telling me to move.

It’s been just two years since I took possession of the property in eastern Kansas. The move was done in stages (something I don’t recommend), and the horses were finally moved on June 21, 2023. Now I was moved.

Messages from the Wild

woman and horseI take the wildlife mentioned above as omens. Seeing an owl during daylight hours is a sign of change, wisdom, or spiritual guidance.

When I saw the owl in the picture, I was returning home one afternoon in early January. A few weeks ago, there was one on my roof when I was going out to feed in the morning. I look to them for their wisdom.
