Your Values Are Quietly Shaping Your Life
Do you know what your fundamental values are? I didn’t know mine until we worked on them when I was in Gestalt training.
Your values guide every part of your life. They create our operating system. They guide our decisions. The decisions stack up. That creates our destiny.
For your deepest level of fulfillment, it is essential to know your values. When you live your values, you know who you are.
We came up with 10 values. The first one is the same throughout our lives. The next two to four can swap places, but they usually remain high. The rest can change.
My Compass Points – Connection, Creativity, Freedom, and Authenticity
My number one value is connection. It’s in my business name and almost everything I do.
I have always valued connection.
Before I was aware, it may have created some bad decisions. I wanted to feel that connection, and I’d gravitate toward anyone who I felt would give me some form of connection.
When I feel a connection with someone, I also may have a hard time ending a relationship that needs to be ended.
Creativity is another of my top values. I am happiest when I can be creative. That may be through photography or writing. One of the ways I can get out of overwhelm is to be creative.
If I take a creativity break from the daily grind of running a business, my business runs smoother.
Another of my top values is freedom. This is probably why I have trouble with a “day job”. I like to have the flexibility and freedom to set my schedule.

Follow your heart they say… Mine always leads me to the Barn!
Authenticity is another. I’ve struggled with this one a lot. When I was younger, because I wanted to feel connections with people, I’d do things that felt Inauthentic. I was people pleasing. Changing myself to be liked.
This showed up in junior high and high school a lot. I loved horses. There weren’t many in school who had the passion for them that I did. I wanted my classmates to like me. I also wanted to be authentically me. I was torn between my passion and my need for others to like me.
