āLast October I wrote a post about how I feel that other cancers besides breast cancer need awareness and funding. We see a lot about breast cancer especially in October.
Two years ago, in October was the beginning of my journey with breast cancer. My first almost yearly mammogram was in late September. In early October my doctor recommended a second mammogram and ultrasound and the biopsy that lead to diagnosis was in early November. So, this time of year is important in my personal story. You can start at the beginning here: A New Lesson, I’m Too Busy.
That fall my husbandās illnesses were also progressing. He was having trouble with the feeding tube that heād had for just over two years and it was decided to remove it on December 22 about a week after I had a lumpectomy.
Between my treatments and his, the next several months were a blur. Then he was gone.
There is a fund at Farmers State Bank that supports cancer patients. We both took money out of it to help with our travel. My sister-in-law who works at the bank said that I needed to investigate it when we were making plans to go to MD Anderson in Houston to see a different hematologist for him.
Then when I was diagnosed, he came home and told me I needed to go to the bank get money out of the fund for me.
This is a great resource for local people. Itās easy and we need to keep it funded. To encourage donations this year Everythingās A Bloominā, Connection And Synergy, and Bloom Studio have donated a basket for the Farmers State Bank to use to encourage donations. If you donate in October, youāll be entered in a drawing to win it.
Iām also committing to donate $5 for every shirt or mug purchased from Bloom Studio. Hereās a link to shop at Bloom Studio’s store. I also have two Hope yard stakes, one purple and one thatās pinkish that I will donate $20 for each one purchased. Contact me here about the yard stakes.
