In the Pasture and Through the Lens

sunflowerWhat brings you joy? I love to take photographs. I took a lot of pictures of my kids and sporting events. Then I went on a couple of western lifestyle photography adventures. I also took a lot during my time with tourism.

My hard drive was overflowing with folders from photography shoots. The last adventure I went on was in August 2022. Since then, I havenā€™t picked up my camera as much. I take pictures of my grandchildren, but theyā€™re not yet at a stage where they have many activities. And Iā€™ve hardly gone anywhere to shoot since I moved a little over a year ago.

The Wonders of Sunflowers and Childhood

There is a sunflower field near me that Iā€™ve known about for several years. They invite people out and let them walk amongst the sunflowers. If you havenā€™t seen a field of sunflowers, it is amazing.

Last weekend when the Grinters posted that the sunflowers were blooming I decided to get my camera and head out. I didnā€™t know how the field was situated, so I went to catch the sunrise in the morning. I missed that but got some photos when the light is at its best.

As a child riding or spending time with my pony or horse brought joy. That still does although when asked on a podcast interview last Friday what I do when I get stressed, I was reminded that I donā€™t go spend time with them except to feed and care for them. I remember when I worked in an office in Oakley thinking that a bad day with the farrier and horses beat a good day in the office. Not that I didnā€™t like what I was doing in the office. I liked spending time with the horses more.

The Moments That Bring Me Happiness

Follow your heart they say… Mine always leads me to the Barn!

Here are the things that bring me joy ā€“ spending time with family, spending time with the horses, photography, and design, and singing or music. I have found a choir to sing with and I attend concerts or musicals when I can so thatā€™s covered. I now have my horses where I live so I can walk out and at least watch them as they graze in the pasture. And I always feel joy when I go out at night and notice the stars.

What is the tape measure that you use to gauge your joy? Have you forgotten those things that brought wonder as a child? It might be as simple as a butterfly on a flower. It might feel like an imperfect moment that can be joyful.

Come to Serenity Ranch and rediscover your joy. The horses are here to offer a helping hoof. Be sure to stay out from underneath their hooves, they have a way to bring you back to the moment. Click the button below to schedule a no-obligation Zoom to get started.
