Johnā€™s first swim meet of the summer was June 2 in Holyoke, CO. The first one is always there because they have an indoor pool and sometimes it can be a bit cold.

This is the farthest from Oakley. According to Google Maps, itā€™s 177 miles and takes 2 hours and 41 minutes. John is in the first warm-up group which starts at 8:00. At least this year I wasnā€™t at KU Med Center with Mike for appointments the day before and got to bed at a reasonable time.

My alarm is set for 4:00 am. For some reason, Iā€™m concerned that it wonā€™t go off. I wake up at 1:30, the phone is charging and set so I go back to sleep. I wake up at 3:45 and go back to bed again, I know, only 15 minutes. Now Iā€™m nauseous. What is this? Iā€™ve only taken anti-nausea meds a few times since being switched to the weekly chemo, now, Iā€™m nauseous?

Finally, I get up, go start coffee and get in the shower. I get ready, get John, and weā€™re on the road by about 5:20 despite nausea and the fact that Iā€™m moving pretty slowly.

The coffee is not sitting well. Neither are the almonds that I am munching on, but I persist hoping that I wonā€™t need to stop.

One of the things that struck me that morning was how early the sun comes up. We live in the western end of the Central Time Zone and I always think the sun comes up really early when I cross into the Mountain Time Zone. As Iā€™m driving it occurs to me that itā€™s completely light and only about 5:00 am Mountain Time.

We get to Holyoke in plenty of time for warm-ups. Itā€™s less than 60Ā° and there is a cool breeze. I had realized on the way that I hadnā€™t brought a jacket or sweater. I usually bring both. So, I opt to go inside to keep from getting chilled. I guess sitting in the bleachers is a better option than being too cold.

If you know me, you know that sitting in the bleachers is not my forte. Iā€™m much more comfortable up taking pictures and moving around. Remember just a few days ago I was told to keep my feet up, so I was trying to be good.

That worked for a while. The stands were too full, and I wanted to be mobile, so I gave up my seat.

I did find a way to put my feet up. I put them in another chair and covered myself with a blanket. This was delightful until the sun started shining on my face, so I moved under the tent.

All in all, it was a good meet. I didnā€™t take as many pictures as normal but there werenā€™t as many kids at this meet as normal either and I opted to just watch the relays.

By the time we got home all I wanted to do was get off my feet. So thatā€™s what I did. And it didnā€™t take long for them to feel better.

Now Iā€™m Walking On Sunshine or maybe sitting in sunshine but feeling good.
