A Midweek Escape with the Healing Herd
Sometimes it feels like drama surrounds me. I want to retreat into the tranquility.
Three Sons, Three Needs, One Overwhelmed Mom
One day, several years ago, all our sons made an ask of me. We had one living at home, either in middle or high school, one living in or near Oakley, and one who was in Lawrence attending Kansas University.
They had all called and complained about something or asked me to do something. In frustration, when Mike came into the room, I asked him, “Why did we have children?”. His response was because you wanted to.
I couldn’t argue with that. I had wanted children. I hadn’t followed my dream of training and showing horses at a higher level because I wanted children. He must have felt the drama all around him.
When I was teaching at the Northwest Kansas Technical College, I felt that way, too. There was a lot of drama at the school and in my classroom.
We had three little boys at home. When I’d get home, all I wanted was peace and no drama. It rarely happened.
Now, most of the time, I only have myself to blame if I get pulled into a dramatic situation. It doesn’t happen too often.
