horse and rider on hill Photography has been a passion of mine since I was a girl. I always remember having a camera and taking snapshots. The summer before my freshman year in high school I was going to Japan and my dad bought me my first SLR camera to take with me.

That led to my first job taking high school basketball photos for the local newspaper for $5.00 for each photo they used. This was before digital photography, and they provided me with film and processing.

pack horsesThis week Iā€™m at the Cottonwood Ranch in Nevada at a photography workshop that includes some Gestalt work. Kim, the Gestaltist, said the following when we were discussing photography:

Slow down, lean, walk, sit, mount

Close in for the details

Love the hands

Connect and be creative

cowboy leaning against wallThis is a reminder in whatever we do. Slow down and lean in. Listen or watch for the details. Make a connection.

All these are important for making connections. I was always surprised when Mike would ask how I knew something about the boys. Because I would slow down and listen to them.

This is important when we are doing Gestalt or working with horses. Slow down, listen and watch for the details, and connect. The horses donā€™t know any other way.

If youā€™d like to explore this with the horses connect with me here.
