Banner of horse's eyes

man and horseSome days it feels like you go from feeling like you’ve won the gold to falling into a shit pile. Our lives are filled with highs and lows there’s no doubt.

As I’m finishing up some work and decluttering my house, I often come across things that remind me of Mike and our life together. Emotions start flowing, some joyful, some sad. I remember the specifics of his disease and the times we spent managing it. I would often question the doctors. Is this the right diagnosis? His care feels disjointed to me. Are you (the specialists) talking to each other? The answers I got were this is the right diagnosis, but there may be others, and we all read the notes from the other doctors.

Don’t get me wrong I think technology is great. I also think doctors need to talk in person about patients especially when it’s a complicated case like Mike’s. Sometimes you need to bounce ideas off someone else.

I remember one day when the pulmonologist said he had talked with the thoracic surgeon in the doctor’s lounge. Another time the oncologist said he needed to meet with the team of doctors that Mike had to see what their next move would be. I’m not sure how they had that conversation and I greatly appreciated that he didn’t have us drive 350 miles to tell us about a test result that didn’t reveal anything and that he needed to talk to the other doctors.

horse's eyeI’ve also been in situations when I felt I needed to camp out on a doctor’s doorstep to get an answer. The times we didn’t get called with test results or didn’t know how to get them.

Now the results come up electronically often before the doctor has let you know about them. You can find out that your results were not favorable online. I don’t like this. I think you should hear from your doctor or the nurse what the results are. You shouldn’t be able to find this out, Google it, and become so anxious that you can hardly breathe before you talk to your doctor.

All these things can cause anxiety. You may have enough anxiety in your life without waiting on doctors. Anxiety especially about your health is not helpful nor is it good for your wellness.

Do you have any form of anxiety? The horses can help with that. Connect with me here to learn more.
