Banner of horse's eyes
Living in Western Kansas I’ve seen a lot of wind. This passage has inspired me to find a way to embrace the wind.
Ā
“A Tibetan allegory, it represents the strength of the human soul, with two components: the first being the wind, or chi, the equivalent of our life force energy or vitality and secondly, the horse, which symbolises strength and the ability to overcome life’s obstacles.”

Finding Peace with a Little Help from Horses

As I write this, itā€™s only Tuesday evening, and I feel like itā€™s been an entire week already. Last week, I reached out to the realtor in Oakley to see if a closing date had been set yet. With the other closings Iā€™ve experienced, theyā€™ve been set weeks in advance. She checked with the closing agent and was told that there was one last form that needed to be signed first.

I assumed that meant it would be at least another week or two. Since I had been back to Oakley the last two weekends, I decided it was safe not to go a third and get the last of the stuff out of the house. I was wrong!

Unexpected Twists and Tight Timelines

Horses runningMonday at around 2:30 pm I got an email from the title company saying they had the completed form. She would be in Oakley on Wednesday. Would we be able to do the closing in Lawrence on Wednesday?

Closing in Lawrence although itā€™s much easier than going back to Oakley is still a chore. I go to Overland Park to pick up Mom and drive her to Lawrence. When the signing is done, I drive her back to Overland Park and drive back to Oskaloosa. If we do nothing else, itā€™s a minimum 3 hour and 44-minute drive.

Not great timing and I could make it work except I still had stuff I wanted out of the house. I contacted the realtor and asked if the buyer would let me get that stuff after closing or should I delay closing. I could come on Tuesday, and I would need help getting the stuff because John couldnā€™t come with me.

She checked with the buyer and asked for a list of what I wanted. He would give me a few days and she wrote up an addendum.

Monday afternoon while we were getting all this ironed out the title company emailed and asked if we could sign the papers on Tuesday so they could be overnighted to Oakley for closing on Wednesday. Again, not very convenient and I could make it work.

After we drove to Lawrence and signed the papers Mom had the insurance bill on the house that was due November 3rd. I told her not to send it and thought while I was there, I would call the agency to tell them about the closing and cancelling the insurance. The woman at the agency mentioned that she hardly knew what day it was. It felt like it should be Friday. I agreed. It felt the same to me.

The Overlooked Beauty in Lifeā€™s Storms

I left Momā€™s with enough time to get chores done before it got dark. The wind has been blowing 20-plus miles per hour for the last two days. Mom and I had discussed how it felt like more than that while driving to Lawrence and when we stopped for lunch, I looked on my phone and it said it was 30. Iā€™m sure there were gusts stronger than that as well.

I went about turning the horses out, cleaning the stalls, and getting feed ready for morning, and went into the house. Raven was coming in from the back porch. I commented sarcastically that it was beautiful out. She responded it was and showed me the pictures of the sunset that I had completely missed because I was intent on what I was doing. She also had some of the clouds from earlier in the day. She commented she had been unsettled by the wind as well. She was also more present in the beauty of it. Sometimes we need someone to bring us back to reality.

For the last few weeks, I feel like everything has been coming at me rapid-fire. With insurance claims, plumbing and water problems, and now the house closing. It will be great to get this closing and the insurance claims completed.
