The beginning of the year ā€“ a time of renewal. Or is it? Do you set resolutions? Have you stuck to them, or have you already abandoned them? As I write this it is January 23. Three weeks into 2023.

Iā€™ve never been one to set resolutions. I have no judgment around those who do and donā€™t keep them. I instead have a limiting belief that I have no discipline.

Old boots on fence posts

We spend our days waiting for the ideal path to appear in front of us but we forget that paths are made by walking…not waiting. – Jody Harris

My weight has crept back up to where it was before I started the weight loss study after I finished treatment for breast cancer. Like glitter, it keeps showing up ā€“ again and again even when I least expect it.

The one type of exercise I did was walking to feed my horses. It was about a half mile each way and I did it twice a day. I gave that up in 2020 for erroneous reasons and havenā€™t taken it back up. Now my mares have moved, and I must drive to feed them. I do get out and clean pens for my other two horses and thatā€™s not enough.

I spent several days with my son in Lawrence last week and came home to a tundra. The weatherman says we had 10 inches of snow here. Iā€™m not so sure. Our snow doesnā€™t come straight down ā€“ it blows. There is a lot, but it didnā€™t look like 10 inches on the fields as I was driving home yesterday. I guess I got a little exercise by shoveling snow in front of my garage last night when I got home.

running up a hill

Watching cross-country runners run up a hill is 2nd only to watching them cross the finish line as far as emotions are concerned.

My son, who I stayed with in Lawrence, is in physical therapy again for his shoulder and heā€™s started running. Iā€™ve only known him to run when he was in cross country or track so Iā€™m happy to see that heā€™s started again. He says he thinks heā€™s feeling better because of it.

As for me and my limiting belief around discipline. Where did it come from? When I was showing horses, I had the discipline to go out and ride every day. Sometimes in not very nice conditions. I do have discipline when I have the right motivation.

Even before that, I had this belief. I find it hard to be on a diet. I donā€™t like to be that hungry. I donā€™t have the discipline to clean house. I can easily keep up with the laundry and dishes. Other chores not so much ā€“ I have more important things to do. It all comes back to this limiting belief.

What limiting beliefs do you have? The horses and I can help you figure out where they came from and overcome them. Connect with me here for more information.
