CS Bar — my grandfather Charles Socolofsky’s brand. Today, it’s mine too. A legacy carried forward, one story at a time.
On the ranch, there’s a saying: Ride for the Brand. It means you show up with loyalty, integrity, and heart—you stay true to the one you serve. For me, writing here is a way of riding for the brand of my own life’s work: being authentic, living with courage, and sharing stories that matter.
Stories are powerful. They don’t land the same way for everyone—each reader brings their own experiences, hopes, and hurts to the words. That’s the beauty of it. My stories may carry one meaning for me, and yet spark something entirely different for you. That doesn’t make either version wrong. It means we’re connecting in the only way humans truly can—through our imperfect, varied interpretations of life.
So here, I’ll keep showing up. I’ll tell my stories—the raw, the ordinary, the joyful, the hard—and trust that you’ll find the piece that speaks to you. This is my way of riding for the brand and inviting you along for the journey.
Onward!
Susan

Life in the Cracks
Life has a way of breaking us open. For me, it happened when I became a caregiver for my husband, and later, my son. No matter how much strength I tried to muster, the cracks kept appearing — cracks of exhaustion, grief, fear, and loneliness.
But here’s what I’ve learned: cracks are not the end of the story. They are also the places where love, meaning, and even a sense of normalcy can seep in.
Holding It All Together
Caregiving wasn’t just about appointments, treatments, and survival. It was also about riding for the brand — staying loyal to my values and to the life we’d built as a family. That meant holding onto small things that mattered: family dinners, laughter around the table, time with the horses, or capturing a sunset through my camera lens. Those were the moments that kept me tethered to who I was, even when life felt fractured.

Over the next five weeks, I’ll be sharing a blog series called Filling in the Cracks. Each post will explore one of the passions that lights me up — the very things that helped me keep life intact while navigating the hardest seasons of caregiving.
Here’s what we’ll explore together:
- How horses help us heal
- What caregiving teaches about love and courage
- Why creativity is a lifeline
- How storytelling builds understanding
- And why connection and community are where true healing begins

If you’ve ever felt the cracks in your own life — from caregiving, illness, or just the weight of being human — this series is for you. My hope is that you’ll find ways to fill your cracks too — not pretending they don’t exist, instead bringing light and connection into them.
An Invitation to You
If you’ve been walking through your own cracks — as a caregiver, a professional under pressure, or simply as a human doing your best — I’d love to hear your story. Connection starts with conversation. Send me a message, or click the button below to set up a time to chat.
And if you’re longing for a deeper experience, I also host Equine Gestalt retreats and PlayShops where horses help us fill the cracks with presence, healing, and connection. Whether in a circle of caregivers, a leadership team, or families seeking new ways to bond, these gatherings remind us we are not alone.
Every story needs a soundtrack.
This is the one I’ve chosen for this post—sometimes because of the title, sometimes the lyrics, sometimes simply the feeling it stirs in me.
