Metal sign - Trust the Process

Trust The Process Metal sign that I made.

I’m amid a whirlwind of activity right now. I have a project that I have known about for months. I need to take it with me to a conference that I leave for on Wednesday (today). I’ve been so focused on the land sale and getting my bookwork caught up that I procrastinated. I thought about outsourcing part of the work, and I procrastinated that as well.

Then I spent a weekend making great progress on the designs and thought I’ve got this. I had the designs done and was having some trouble with the computer that the CAD program is on that gets my files ready for cutting and I was on with tech support Monday before the sale. I think he sent the files I needed Tuesday and on Thursday I finally set to work on getting the program on another computer. That wasn’t working and the computer that it was on, and I now had working got too hot and shut off in the middle of editing a file. That wasn’t going to work either.

Scream in LegosTech support called back just as I was finishing lunch and determined that he needed to send me some different files. I thought he was doing that as we spoke. I waited. And waited. They didn’t come on Thursday. They didn’t come on Friday.

I’d had enough. I got out the old computer that had shut off in the middle of working on files and decided to see if I could get the files done. I would save often and put the computer to sleep anytime I wasn’t working on it so it wouldn’t overheat. I completed all the work on the files now it was time to go to the shop and set things up there.

I had a few little issues but thought I had everything working. It would be too late to call tech support anyway. A high school classmate that I hadn’t seen in over 30 years was in town. I was able to get in touch with her, so I quit working. I can cut the files tomorrow.

I thought I had new parts for the torch so Saturday morning I looked for them. I swear I had moved them at least twice when I cleaned off my desk in the last year or so. My search did not reveal them. I’ll put the new parts I have on the torch and see if that works. It didn’t.

I assumed it was a specific part and I went to great lengths to get it. I searched everywhere I could think of on Saturday – a lot of the places weren’t open. One of the local parts stores could get one on Tuesday morning. I had them order it. Then I called a store in Hays (90 miles), and they had it. I drove to Hays Monday morning. The torch still won’t work and again I’m waiting on tech support to see if I can cut.

This storm could have been avoided had I not put off working on this for so long. Some things are out of my control and that might clash with my schedule.

So here I sit waiting on tech support to call me back wondering if I’ll be able to complete this project.
