Clocks keep ticking!

My mother once told me that we tend to fill whatever space we are given. Iā€™ve seen that to be true or sometimes we over fill it.

I see the same thing for time. If I allot a certain amount of time for something, then have more than that time to do it I fill my time and Iā€™m always running up against that deadline.

For instance, if I have an appointment at 10:00 in the morning and I leave enough time to feed the horses, shower and get ready, and have some breakfast. I will add a cushion of about 15 minutes, but it feels like Iā€™m always pushing to get to the appointment.

Sometimes I know what derailed my morning. But often I wonder where those few extra minutes go.

And letā€™s not talk about getting ready for a major holiday or meeting a major deadline. Those come down to the last minute as well. I tell people who ask me if Iā€™m ready for Christmas that I never am, and it comes anyway.

I just did an interview for a podcast. I was ready early and was responding to emails and messages while I waited. Then when it was one minute before the interview I signed on to the site. I had forgotten that I hadnā€™t used the service since I had replaced my computer and it had to install the software. So much for being on time for that one.

When we entered the Equine Gestalt Coaching MethodĀ® program we took a typology test that told us about four aspects of our personalities. I was surprised to find out that my perception of time is more organized than not.

Time marches on. The newness of disc golf along with an outhouse.

I always seem to push deadlines and need a deadline to complete projects at all. When Iā€™m designing if someone says whenever you can do it. Theyā€™ll be lucky to get it done by me until they give me a hard deadline.

My house is not very organized. Things tend to stay where they land unless I need to do something specific with them.

Then we were working with a surgeonā€™s team and they told me that they were looking at a date in the next week to see Mike. It was two days prior and they hadnā€™t called and confirmed. I was frantic, donā€™t they know we have to drive 350 miles for this? So, I called. The schedular said yes, heā€™s on the schedule but we donā€™t call to confirm a time until the day before. OK so I would need to plan a trip across the state thatā€™s what I needed to know.

I also got to be good at getting him to his appointments early, so we sometimes had to wait for quite a while because I wasnā€™t sure how much time to allow for traffic. Better than the times we were late because I didnā€™t know how much time to allow for traffic.

Spring flowers.

And if you look at my computer files, especially the photo files, you would find them to be very organized. Itā€™s all in whatā€™s important to us. The more important I feel something is the more likely I am to be organized about it. Itā€™s all a part of my personality.

Where do you fall in the organizational spectrum? It might surprise you like it did me.

Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?
