dogThe barking disrupts my sleep. Is it the neighborhood dogs or something else that has her on her toes?

Iā€™ve had Dalila for just over three years now. Sheā€™s a cross between a Border Collie and an Australian Shepard and she has a lot of energy. She is also very sensitive and has a lot of anxiety. Sometimes I wonder if she is picking up the anxiety from me.

I can be highly distracted ā€“ have trouble living in the moment. Sometimes Iā€™m so distracted that even when Iā€™m extremely tired I have trouble going to bed. I need to water the plants. I need to get the laundry, so I have towels in the morning. I need to put dishes in the dishwasher. There are never-ending things to be done.

woman and two horsesRight now, Iā€™m working on a big project. Iā€™m spending almost every waking hour working on it. While doing that Iā€™m trying not to sacrifice my sleep. I know how important that part of self-care is to me.

There have been times when I wasnā€™t so good at manifesting self-care. When the boys were little, I would often do things after they went to bed. After working all day Iā€™d take care of everyone then work on my side hustle into the wee hours of the morning.

bisonOne time when I was at Roderickā€™s while Mike was in the hospital, I told him I was going to bed. It was 10:00 or earlier and he said he remembered me as staying up late when he was at home. I told him that I also wasnā€™t getting up so I could be 45 minutes away by 6:30 am so I didnā€™t miss rounds either. I learned a long time ago that the less I disrupt my sleep pattern the better off I am.

Iā€™ve always known how being with the horses helped with my stress. It helped me with boy troubles when I was in high school. It was my escape when I was in college. Now I partner with horses to share their healing gift with others.
