Banner of horse's eyes

dogThe barking disrupts my sleep. Is it the neighborhood dogs or something else that has her on her toes?

I’ve had Dalila for just over three years now. She’s a cross between a Border Collie and an Australian Shepard and she has a lot of energy. She is also very sensitive and has a lot of anxiety. Sometimes I wonder if she is picking up the anxiety from me.

I can be highly distracted – have trouble living in the moment. Sometimes I’m so distracted that even when I’m extremely tired I have trouble going to bed. I need to water the plants. I need to get the laundry, so I have towels in the morning. I need to put dishes in the dishwasher. There are never-ending things to be done.

woman and two horsesRight now, I’m working on a big project. I’m spending almost every waking hour working on it. While doing that I’m trying not to sacrifice my sleep. I know how important that part of self-care is to me.

There have been times when I wasn’t so good at manifesting self-care. When the boys were little, I would often do things after they went to bed. After working all day I’d take care of everyone then work on my side hustle into the wee hours of the morning.

bisonOne time when I was at Roderick’s while Mike was in the hospital, I told him I was going to bed. It was 10:00 or earlier and he said he remembered me as staying up late when he was at home. I told him that I also wasn’t getting up so I could be 45 minutes away by 6:30 am so I didn’t miss rounds either. I learned a long time ago that the less I disrupt my sleep pattern the better off I am.

I’ve always known how being with the horses helped with my stress. It helped me with boy troubles when I was in high school. It was my escape when I was in college. Now I partner with horses to share their healing gift with others.
