If we all had the passion of Queen, especially Freddie Mercury, weād be set.
John and I saw Bohemian Rhapsody last night. Some movies are a little slow getting to rural western Kansas. I loved it because it showed the passion that the band, specifically Freddie Mercury had for his music and his vision.
At one point they leave their first big record label because the label doesnāt want to cut Bohemian Rhapsody. If we were all ready to follow our bliss to such extremes, weād be much happier and probably more successful.
Itās the same reason I love Garth Brooks. You can see the passion oozing out of him when he performs.
At one point in my life, I was a vocal performance major. I guess I didnāt have the passion to follow that path. To this day I love to sing but I wasnāt prepared to spend the time required in the practice room.
For me, it always comes back to the horses and the feeling I get when Iām working with them. When we had an office downtown, I remember thinking that a bad with the farrier was better than a good day in the office. And when I was at horse shows or races, I was totally immersed in what I was doing.
I have the same feelings when Iām photographing or designing. It feels like play.
Because I would have rather been at the barn when I was in college, I wasnāt prepared for the commitment they expected out of me for the first two programs of study I chose: architecture and vocal performance.
When I came home from college, I went to work with a horse trainer. When I had a trainer tell me that he was on the road six months out of every year I decided that was not the way I wanted to raise a family and my dream of being a professional horse trainer ended.
As I recount this, I see that I have always lived by my values. My top three values are love, creativity, and freedom.
Mike and I had already been dating when I went to work with the horse trainer and we were engaged shortly before I moved back to Oakley. I knew when I married him that he was married to his land before me and I would not live anywhere besides Oakley. But I would also be able to have horses in my life.
Three times I have taken jobs that I thought would feed my creativity and all three times I left them to have more freedom and creativity in my life.
After the third time, I circled back around to the horses. As I was spending so much time traveling with Mike to hospitals and clinics, I started the Touched By A HorseĀ® program. As crazy as our schedule could be, I managed to make all my Core trainings as I had them planned. I set the intention and vision, and everything fell into place. Sometimes I didnāt know if Iād be able to make them right up to the last day, but I always did. So now Iām able to work with my passion and stay within my values.
